Central Texas has some of the most fascinating small towns you'll ever come across. While they all share the history and culture that makes Texas, well, Texas, each town is unique in its own way. Here's a list of our favorite Central Texas towns, all a relatively short distance from Bandera Crossing Resort.

Bandera

What makes it special: Bandera, Texas bills itself the Cowboy Capital of the World, and with good reason. Here, you can completely immerse yourself in traditional cowboy culture. Bandera also has some of the most scenic natural areas in Texas. And, it's located along the Medina River, so there's plenty of water sports to enjoy.

Luckenbach

What makes it special: Well, if you have to ask, maybe, you should check with Waylon and Willie and the boys. Seriously, Luckenbach, Texas is one of those places you'll want to visit just so you can say you've been there. It's a great place to unwind and enjoy great country music and a beer or two.

Ingram

What makes it special: Ingram, Texas is situated on the banks of the Guadalupe River, you can enjoy swimming and other water-related activities. Ingram also has a replica of Stonehenge, which is a very popular tourist attraction.

Gruene

What makes it special: Gruene, Texas is famous for Gruene Hall, one of the oldest dance halls in Texas. You can stop by almost any day of the week and enjoy great beer and great music. Downtown Gruene is also filled with unique shops and restaurants. And, once a month, you can attend Gruene Market Days, where a variety of antiques are sold.

Fredericksburg

What makes it special: Fredericksburg, Texas is known for its German heritage, wineries, and dedication to WWII heroes. The town's German heritage is reflected in the historic architecture found throughout the town, as well as annual activities, such as Oktoberfest. Fredericksburg is considered the epicenter of Texas Wine Country. Here, you can enjoy dozens of wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms. When visiting Fredericksburg, make sure to visit the National Museum of the Pacific War. The museum has exhibits related to the Enola Gay, Doolittle Raid, as well as live-action perfomances of combat in the Pacific during WWII.

Kerrville

What makes it special: Surrounded by miles and miles of scenic Central Texas hills, Kerrville is known as the official Capital of Texas Hill Country. The Guadalupe River runs right through Kerrville, Texas, resulting in a number of beautiful city parks. Kerrville is also the home of Texas' Official State Arts and Crafts Fair, the Museum of Western Art, and the internationally known Kerrville Folk Festival.

Dripping Springs

What makes it special: Dripping Springs, Texas is the location of Hamilton Pool Preserve, an historic swimming hole near the Pedernales River. The preserve has a variety of birds, fish, and animals. Dripping Springs is also a great place to shop. Historic Mercer Street is known for its unique boutiques and thrift shops.
